Mobility
From individual vehicles to multi-modal traffic systems
To cope with the rising demand for mobility, the current transportation system must be improved, and be made more efficient and robust. At the NCCR Automation, concepts and components for automating multimodal mobility systems, as well as individual applications in specific transport sectors are designed.
The mobility of the future will be characterised by the networking of different means of transport that are individually controlled and optimally coordinated. Increasingly, self-driving vehicles that respond correctly to traffic conditions and mobility-on-demand systems will be used. These new types of resources will also have an impact on the overall traffic conditions and can potentially be used to improve the efficiency of the transport system as a whole.
We are gradually drawing closer to this vision and are developing solutions ranging from the automation of sub-systems through to concepts for integrating multimodal transport systems.
